The Bio-dome doesn’t look so good Buh-Dy

It’s actually called the Biosphere 2, and is located in the middle of the Arizona Desert. Built between 1987 and 1991 for the purpose of studying the interactions between humans, farming and technology with the rest of nature. 3.15 acres large, the dome even featured its own one million gallon artificial ocean.

“The structure was billed as the first large habitat for humans that would live and breathe on its own, as cut off from the earth as a spaceship,” the New York Times wrote back in 1992, but the project was a near-instant failure.

In 2007 the dome was sold and is open for tours, though completely falling apart.

I just thought this story was a funny addition to my Pauly Shore addiction that has come of late, and while the movie Bio-dome was not actually filmed here, it looks pretty spot on with the movie re-creation of it. Check out more pictures at the link.
