The new Crysis 2 trailer is awesome (but not why you’d think) [UPDATED AGAIN]

09/04/2010

The newest trailer for Crysis 2 has been on the youtubes for a few days now. Unfortunately it was filmed in times square, where to hear the sound it was necessary to call in to a 1-800 number on your phone. While the trailer was quite visually awesome (Crysis is a game that I always wanted to play, but lacked the disgustingly powerful PC to play), the real thing that caught my eye (or should I say EAR) was the music in it.

The game, taking place in New York (in the future) is fitting to have Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” playing in the background. Though it doesn’t really convey the mood that the game is going for, so instead there is a slowed down version of the tune. It’s akin to the version of “The times they are a-Changin’ ” cover I posted last week, it’s freaking amazing. I spent the last 40 minutes or so trying to find a download version of it. But I cant seem to find if it was a version which was recorded just for the trailer, or if it existed before. I will look more after work.

UPDATE: After seeing how many people are also interested on getting their hands on this song, I have taken it upon myself to try and contact Crytek, the makers of this game. I will try my best to get my hands on an MP3 of this for myself (and everyone else).

UPDATE 2: A nice commenter (Thanks again!)  has alerted me to the fact that the version was recorded by one Polly Scattergood, an artist from the UK. I have contacted her/her management on where/if one would be able to get this track. Will update soon with anything I hear back.

UPDATE 3: Today I got a message back from both Polly Scattergood AND Tom Ebsworth from Crytek about the tune. The word from Crytek is that they don’t have any plans at the moment to release the track, though they MAY include it in the soundtrack they MAY release for Crysis 2. Though, that all seems like a stretch.

Mrs/Ms/Miss Scattergood however did let me know that she is working with her management to see if the label would be willing to release the track (given there is enough interest to). Which sounds much more promising. My suggestion to anyone who would like to get their hands on this amazing track would be to friend Polly on Myspace and leave her a comment saying that you want it!

I feel really good about putting in a bunch of leg work to try and get a single song. I feel like a real blogger type person, and I am super excited that I got to find an awesome new artist to listen to. I will for sure be writing a blog up specifically about her within a few days and I just bought a copy of her Self-titled record on iTunes. I suggest everyone else do the same.

The song is sung by Polly Scattergood, a british singer and songwriter.

You’re welcome. :-) I’m searching for this nice rendition, too.
