I Let Me Down

05/02/2012

About 4 months ago I ordered a song that would be written for me by Max Bemis, who is currently my favourite singer/songwriter. When not on tour he has a song shop where he writes songs for people on any subject of their choice for a nominal fee. Yesterday afternoon I received my song and I have to say that it far exceeded my expectations of what it would be. I never expected the description that I gave to affect me the way it has since receiving it and I have to say it will probably stand to be the best gift I have ever, and will ever probably give myself. I probably shouldn’t have been so selfish with it as its entirely about me, but I felt that Bemis would really be able to nail down the feeling I was going for, given his tumultuous past battling many similar issues I sometimes feel I face.

Either way, here it is, and I will try to transcribe the lyrics out the best I can. I also plan on learning how to play it and possibly integrate it into the acoustic EP I have been writing for 3 years, and any live shows, if ever. I feel like it’s an interesting thing to cover a song written by someone else about myself.

I Let Me Down

It seems, I’m only 23, I shouldn’t be so empty, full of pills.
So dead, grasping for a thrill, and nostalgic for the sense of hope it killed.
I was so pure and full of life, then I drowned it in a mess of alcohol.
I know I need to pick it up, but I just want to be engulfed by it all.

I let me down again, down again, down again, again.
I let me down again, down again, down again, again.

This sweat pouring down the back, as I fill my bed with people I don’t know.
Just to turn away from God, never knew that getting better went this low.

I’ve let me down again, down again, down again, again.
I let me down again, down again, down again, again.

[alright]

It seems like a thousand years since I felt anything,
and they laugh at my attempts to figure out the pleasure that the painful silence brings.

I’ve let me down again, down again, down again, again.
I let me down again, down again, down again, again.
I let me down again.
